We begin our journey into the world through our five senses: sight, sound, touch, smell, and taste. In our earliest stages, this limited sensory input is often all we can manage. However, if we continue to engage with the world solely through these five senses, we may mistakenly believe that the world itself is limited to them. This narrow perspective constrains our experience and potential. As the axiom states, “As you think, so shall you be.” While X-rays may permeate the very space around us, our lack of sensory receptors for them means they remain invisible to our immediate perception. Expanding Beyond Our Five Senses is very much a part of the journey of life. We start out small, but we’re not meant to stay there. We must indeed transform, grow, create and become who we really are.
Waking Up to a Multi-Sensory Reality
The paradigm shift in our lives begins when we awaken to the potential of a multi-sensory approach. We start to “see” with the “eyes behind our eyes,” recognizing that engaging the world through an expanded array of sensory experiences fosters deeper connections, greater empathy, increased courage, and enhanced resilience. When all our senses work together in coherence – a harmony of body, heart, and mind – we experience a richer, more profound life. We gain glimpses of the “bigger picture” where what we observe has resonance in our feelings, what we touch connects us to deeper listening, and so on. This unitive experience, mirroring the concept of yoga (union), integrates our being into a holistic whole.
Opening Doors to Expanded Awareness
Expanding Beyond Our Five Senses and there limitations opens doorways to a greater awareness. We transition from a contracted sense of self and our environment to an expanded understanding. The world feels larger, filled with more possibilities, including the essential element of the unknown that fuels our need for adventure and exploration. Like a fledgling bird learning to fly, we expand beyond our initial limitations.

The Question That Nourishes the Soul
As we become more conscious and reclaim our personal power, we begin to ask: Does This Nourish My Soul? (DTNMS). In our CQ Meditations, we explore relaxing the five senses to invite a deeper sense of relaxation throughout our entire being. This multi-sensory experience taps into a richer, three-dimensional understanding of reality.
Victor Frankl and the Spiritual Dimension of Being
Victor Frankl, holocaust survivor and author of Man’s Search for Meaning, posited a crucial insight: humanity is not merely a biological mass of chemicals. We are, fundamentally, spiritual beings. He emphasized that true human growth occurs when we transcend distorted perceptions and embrace our spiritual nature.
“If human behaviour is viewed from a sub-human (non-spiritual) level of being, the uniquely human or spiritual aspects of human existence will be missed.” – Victor Frankl
Frankl illustrated this concept with a powerful analogy:
Imagine a three-dimensional glass, open at the top. When this glass is projected onto a two-dimensional plane (horizontal and vertical), its three-dimensional essence is lost.
If light shines on this three-dimensional glass, projecting its shadow onto a flat background, the shadow will appear as a square. If the light source shifts, the shadow will appear circular. The glass possesses both square and circular properties, but it only appears as a glass when viewed in its full, three-dimensional form.

This is akin to our limited, five-sensory perception. It is like looking only at the shadows of the glass. While understandable intellectually, it misses the richness and wholeness of our multi-sensory existence and, crucially, the spiritual dimension that defines our humanity.
WAKING UP TO A MULTI-SENSORY REALITY
Expanding Beyond Our Five Senses is everybody’s business.

Expanding Beyond Our Five Senses and those limitations opens doorways to a greater awareness. We transition from a contracted sense of self and our environment to an expanded understanding. The world feels larger, filled with more possibilities, including the essential element of the unknown that fuels our need for adventure and exploration. Like a fledgling bird learning to fly, we expand beyond our initial limitations. The journey of life begins through our five senses sure, but true growth comes from recognizing the multi-sensory reality that enriches our experiences. By expanding our awareness beyond these limitations, we foster deeper connections and embrace our spiritual nature, leading to a holistic understanding of existence and personal empowerment. The Paradigm Process teaches us how to transcend our depression, anxiety, addictions and anything else that stands in the way of who we really, really are.
