The Paradigm Process: A Critical Look at a Novel Approach to Depression Treatment
This blog post introduces the Paradigm Process, a 12-week program designed to address depression, addictions, burnout, anxiety, personality disorders, general stuckness and other mental health issues through personal transformation in a bold, ultra-modern and new way. Here’s a breakdown with a more objective viewpoint:
Core Tenets:
- Focus on Transformation: The Paradigm Process emphasizes personal growth and changing negative personality traits (“masks”) to achieve a “sacred self” free from depression and anxiety. This is a healing process that Mark suggests is one of the best in the world today as it covers all aspects of personality that don’t work, while providing solutions to what does work.
- Shifting the Paradigm: The program aims to move individuals from a “survival mind” to a “thrive mind” by addressing the root causes of mental health struggles.
- 10 Pathways to Wholeness: It outlines a structured approach to dismantling negative ego defenses (“ego insurgents”) and cultivating positive traits like self-love and gratitude.
Points to Consider:
- Limited Scientific Evidence: Depression is really hard to diagnose and most professionals and psychologists get it wrong according to Dr. Jordan Peterson. He is probably right! Often we are treating poor life choices, bad deals, silly decisions and hard knocks of grief, loss and trauma. So it is a complicated subject to begin with.
- Focus on Individual Responsibility: The emphasis on personal transformation may downplay the complexity of mental health. Biological, social, and economic factors can all contribute to depression. People need to try and heal themselves.

Overall:
The Paradigm Process and it’s 10 Pathways Out of Depression offers a potentially vital and valuable perspective on personal growth and its role in mental well-being. However, it’s important to consult with qualified mental health professionals who can offer evidence-based treatment options. Options are the main thing here. Some people like holistic and alternative options while others prefer medical models and psychiatric only interventions. If it works don’t change it. If it doesn’t work, keep looking for new depression treatment options, says Mark L Lockwood BA(psy)(hons)
Here are some additional considerations:
- Integration with Traditional Therapies: The Paradigm Process could be a useful adjunct to existing treatments like medication and psychotherapy. This is great progress and the more weapons we throw at depression the better.
- Focus on Underlying Trauma: Identifying and addressing past traumas that may contribute to negative personality traits could enhance the program’s effectiveness.
- Holistic Approach: A comprehensive approach that considers biological, psychological, and social factors is crucial for successful mental health treatment.

A new way to treat depression
We learned to treat the personality with the best therapy model we could find which is the Paradigm process for depression treatment. Our 10 Pathways Out of Depression are designed to make an atomic bomb styled difference to the quality of a persons life. We want the best possible outcome for our clients.
We grew tired of hearing that people of the world now believe that they have to cope with depression, anxiety, burnout and personality or mood disorders. Medicine is not enough and has led to a further spike in the mental health crisis. We send people for psychiatric interventions at our mental health and wellness clinics to get medication is to heal their depression symptoms. Then we send them back again and again for tweaks and adjustments to that medication in the hope that this time it will work. Although medicine does alleviate a lot of the symptoms, especially at first, you still need to do the hard work of rewiring and firing in a different part of your brain.
We remove the 10 masks that create the disease and disorder in our mental and emotional states and replace them with 10 pathways back to authenticity, to sacred self, as we call it where the fear based personality no longer runs the show. This is how people are healing today and it is beyond extraordinary.
Mark L Lockwood BA(psy)(hons) – Paradigm Process course creator
If you’re stuck in survival mind and our plagued by the fight flight and freeze response that is common place for us to experience in our home and work environments today then you need to get out of that frame of mind. Survival mind only knows one response and that is how to survive. But we do not want people to survive we want them to arrive and then thrive. Everybody deserves a high quality life without any exclusions. People who have suffered traumas in their lives, which is essentially all of us, will need to do the work with the 10 Pathways Out of Depression of rewiring their reality. It is an essential part of life today. Life itself is here for a reason.

We are here to grow, become more and more conscious and allow the truth to set us free from all our fears. If we are not following our purpose we tend to suffer. Life demands that we live with growth meaning and purpose. If we don’t we quickly become miserable hopeless and lost. To get our lives back on track we need a paradigm shift from survival mind to thrive mind. From the amygdala hijack of the brain to the pre-frontal cortex where we can start creating new and positive experiences for ourselves.
The personality creates our personal reality
All of our past experiences including all our thoughts feelings and perceptions and behaviours and responses to life have created the personality that has created I’ll personal reality. If life is not working for us we need to change I’ll personality. We need to become who we truly are without the consequences of trauma and pain that we have all had to try and avoid at all costs. So we created the Paradigm process for depression treatment and all personality disorders and dis-ease for that matter including addictions, burnout, eating disorders and whatever other coping mechanisms the body, heart, mind created to try and keep us safe. The 10 Pathways Out of Depression are a way back to a new freedom!
The first step is becoming aware that we even have masks that are defending ourselves from pain and suffering with the personality we have created. We become bitter people, selfish, cold or insecure through the trials of life. We become perfectionistic or codependent and these masks help us at first. Later on they inevitably create the depression and anxiety or fears that they were created to try and avoid. To get well we need to become aware of them, accept and integrate them and then take massive new action to turn our lives around.
We have developed this process into a 12 week or 12 module program that has success rates that are 10 X what we ever, ever expected. Where healing treatment resistant depression in people who have been around the world looking for solutions and answers that they simply could not find. What we have found is that all those some issues like treatment resistant depression can be difficult to deal with they are far from impossible to heal. We have seen so many common people doing uncommon things when they create a complete paradigm shift for themselves.
They create a complete Intra-psychic shift from lost to found, hopeless to hopeful and anxious to calm and above all from the frightened parts of their personalities back to the loving embrace of their highest, most sacred selves. The truth (reality) really does set us free and that is what we do in our Paradigm process for depression treatment courses at our Center, online and in-person. We change everything and if a client is willing to get well, they get well. We are a lot tougher and capable than you may think. If we want something bad enough we can make the law of attraction look silly. In fact if we want wellness and life transformation badly enough we become it!
The 10 Step Paradigm process for depression treatment
When the personality is no longer serving you but hindering you then you need a new program. When a computer program becomes redundant we need to get rid of it and replace it with a new one. It is the same with the programs we run in our bodies hearts and minds. Because the world is changing so quickly we need to keep up. There is no room left to operate from money mind without inevitably falling from the tree. If we fall behind we fall into survival or victim modes that naturally keep us suppressed and distressed. At some point we know we need to run a new program however it is easier said than done in understanding where to find that program and how to install it. The 10 step program to heal your life is that program – the Paradigm Process.
The Paradigm Process offers people 10 Pathways Out of Depression back to sacred self that are workable, profound and easy to follow. Your sacred self is where your true values, emotions, desires and objectives reside. It is that part of you that is wanting more from life. It is that part of you that wants to actualise your full potential and grow personally and then heal the world. There are certain things that we learned in childhood that became our ego defence mechanisms. We developed what we call ego insurgents to protect us from a harsh and ever-changing world. We developed a controller insurgent. We also developed a judge a victim and a perfectionist insurgent. In fact we developed 10 ego insurgents that kept us safe from the world by creating a personality that became a personal reality for us all.
If your life is not working out for you as you wanted it to, which it seldom does in the first half of life, then you need to find a way out of your personality prison. We do this through the 10 pathways, one at a time, by activating self-love, gratitude, connection, and other traits that live in a completely separate part of our hearts, bodies, and brains. We sway the energy in the opposite direction! Essentially, we need to find a road map or a path to change. The Paradigm Process is that pathway. The program teaches you to let go of the 10 insurgent characters of ego that are essentially entrenched personality traits that hold you back. At the same time, it teaches you how to recover a sense of what can propel you forward in your personal life, your business life, and your relationships. The program helps you change your personality. In fact, it helps you to overcome it and transcend it.
The work of actualization and change today is no longer something that we consider as an option. In today’s world growth change and transformation have become a necessity for everyone. If we are not growing and moving forward we are dying. At least dying neurologically. We are creatures that were designed for far more than survival. We have an innate desire within each of us to self actualize our full potential and then share that potential with the world.
Through meditation practice, contemplation, through developing a new understanding of how you body-heart-mind works, through changing thoughts, belief, energetics and focus you can begin to have a full paradigm shift. Tackling each mask and removing it layer by layer and then replacing those masks with the highest energies, concepts, attitudes, traits and beliefs is the way through the 10 Pathways. Our message is don’t stay stuck and don’t wait. The work is waiting for us all. All we need to do is show up for ourselves.

Essentially, the Paradigm Process for depression treatment focuses on addressing mental health crises through personal transformation rather than solely relying on medication. By removing ego-based defenses, individuals can reconnect with their true selves and create new positive experiences. This 12-module program promises substantial success in healing personality disorders and fostering overall growth.
Best depression treatment centre in South Africa
It’s a fact that our clients, over the last 13 years, have called us the best depression treatment centre in South Africa time and time again. Usually, by the time people come and see us at our wellness centre, lost deep in the Western Cape’s garden route region, they have been around the block a few times before they reach us. Almost always, they have tried every remedy that they could find under the sun.
They have been on every cocktail of medicine that one could imagine, which sometimes offered them a one step forward and a step backward solution to their depression. We often find people with treatment-resistant depression come and see us; people who did not respond at all, or very little, to the medication offered by a handful of depression psychiatrists over the years. Many have been to more extreme measures and have tried Iowa scar and kitten-style treatments, which also only offered temporary relief.
So by the time we see them, we know we’re often the last shot at wellness, healing, and a quality life.
